R is for Research:
- All Experts - This is a fantastic place to find a "real life" expert for your toughest questions. Just be sure to check out their credentials.
- TV Tropes - This site reminds me of the awesome DPK. Tropes galore!
- Lydia Kang's Medical Mondays & Redwood's Medical Edge - Both have a great collection of medical facts for fiction.
How do you do your research?

Lydia's Medical Mondays are great.
So helpful! Thanks for these!
Research is essential.
I have to check out TV Tropes!
These are terrific! Thanks, Carrie!
I've been thinking about some research I have to do for my WIP (I've been putting it off). You first link may just be my answer. Thanks Thanks Thanks!
They're always so interesting! :)
I love T.V. tropes. It's fun to see how your work fits into or doesn't fit into established tropes.
Oh, cool. I'm off to check out the medical tips.
Google!! I just had the best compliment on the ER scene in my book. The reader was a cardiac tech & said I was spot on & surely I had medical experience. I said, "Nope. Just Google!" But I'm definite gonna check out The Experts.
I've done my research from various books, both non-fiction and historical novels, along with reference books and news articles. I also use sites like Behind the Name and a couple of foreign language sites for names. One of my more recent favorite online resources is http://www.alphadictionary.com/slang/. It saves a historical writer the embarrassment of using an anachronistic word, like dork in the 1940s or sucks in the 1960s.
No problem, Fairview! :)
Amen! :)
Prepare to lose several hours... ;)
Thanks, Joylene! You're very welcome. :)
Great resources! Anyone who wants to write a story with medical facts in it would do well to check out Lydia's Monday collection for sure.
I hope so! I found my Latin expert there. :)
No problem, Julia!

I've spent a bit of time on T.V. Tropes....great link :)
It is, isn't it? I've always been a fan of the anti-hero. :)
Sounds like a great commercial for Google. Cash in on that! ;)
What a wonderful resource! Thanks for sharing Carrie-Anne. :D
Thanks, Trisha! :) Oh, you bet. If nothing else, they're always interesting!
Why thank you, Tara! :) I appreciate that!
Easy to lose time there, isn't it? ;) Thanks, Mark!
Great links! I was periodically mourning the loss of a huge email writing group (made up of diverse writers/professionals who would answer such questions) until now. :)
CrimeSceneWriters yahoo group is another good resource.

Thanks for the addition, Melissa! It sounds like a great group. :)
