Just in time for the holiday[1] of my people—and by my people, I mean marketers—here's a list of my favorite book couples:
Before you ask, I disqualified Rena & Wallace from this list. Author bias and all that. ;)
10. Augustus and Hazel from The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. They made me have feelings, and I'm not the type to have any. Darn you, John Green! (DFTBA.)
9. Four and Tris from Divergent by Veronica Roth. Romance is best tempered by action scenes. Solid couple.
8. Joe Morelli, Ranger, and Stephanie Plum from The Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich. Not a couple, per se, but these three have been in a triangle since the nineties. The nineties! Points for persistence.
7. Luc and Jane from See Jane Score by Rachel Gibson. This dysfunctional relationship is best summed up by a quote from Luc: “You make me want to suck a bruise on you just to kiss it better."
See what I mean?
See what I mean?
6. St. Clair and Anna from Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Young, awkward love. ♥
5. Connor and Claire from Finding Claire Fletcher by Lisa Regan. I know this is going to sound strange because of the book's subject matter, but Connor and Claire share a very Corinthians love. It protects, trusts, hopes, perseveres, etc. Good stuff.

4. Ty and Hannah from The Mistaken by Nancy S. Thompson. Their relationship is dark, gritty, and downright complicated—which is why I like it.
3. Maddox and Ashlyn from The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter. Maddox is possessed by the demon of violence, so it's hard for him to be around Ashlyn. It makes for some interesting scenes...
2. Jake and Emma from Violet Midnight by Lynn Rush. Teamwork personified. I love how much they trust and rely on each other.
1. Mark and Chelsea from Nothing But Trouble by Rachel Gibson. A bitter, injured hockey player and his cheery, pint-sized assistant play tug-of-war with their feelings. Ah, stubborn love.
Do you have a favorite book couple?
1. I know, I know. Valentine's Day is more than marketing. Here's some info on the holiday's history.
2. I'm reading Taking Charge by Mandy Baggot right now, and I love it. Cole & Robyn will have a place on my next list!

That's a good question. Connor and Claire are a good choice. I'm drawing a blank right now. lol
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mike! Lisa did a great job with Connor and Claire, didn't she? :)
DeleteOf course there was always Romeo and Juliet or Perseus and Andromeda...
ReplyDeleteClassics! :D
DeleteI'm with you on Augustus and Hazel, and for the exact reasons you mention.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of over the Stephanie/Morelli/Ranger triangle. I personally feel like it's gone on too long, and while I understand why Stephanie hasn't picked one yet, I really wish she would just pick and stick with Morelli already.
What a tearjerker! I felt like someone else for the last third of that book.
DeleteOh, I know what you mean. I would be overjoyed if Stephanie finally married Joe, and Ranger became Batman. ;)
Thanks for stopping by, M.J.!
Lola and Cricket! Perkins sure knows how to write swoony contemps.
ReplyDeleteI still have to read that one! I've been hearing so many good things. :)
DeleteSound like great books-- nothing like a little lovin' for the Valentine's season.
ReplyDeleteExactly! (I say this, even though I don't celebrate. LOL) Thanks for stopping by, Julie!
DeleteWow, I'd have to go back through my books to find one.
ReplyDeleteOur ninja captain cannot be swayed by literary romance! ;)
DeleteWow. Great list! I'm sure I could come up with a few, but they'd mostly be from HRs. You know me... :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melissa! Hurry up and finish Come Back so I can put Seth and Becca on next year's list. ;)
DeleteANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS...sigh :-)
ReplyDeleteGood stuff, right? :) I want to read it again. I just need to figure out a way to stay awake longer than 18 hours a day...
DeleteAw, thank you for the Ty and Hannah shout out. They are rather dark & gritty, and yes, extremely complicated! How about Wallace and Rena? I bet they'll have tons of fans come March 7th! And talk about hot!
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome! :) Oh, man. I hope so!
DeleteWhat a great list!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elizabeth! :)
DeleteThanks so much, CARRIE!! Jake and Emma say THANKS, too!!
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome, Lynn! You know I love those two. :D
DeleteP.S. I hope you're feeling better!
I love a lot of couples in lit. One of my favs is Nick and Lucy from Moonraker's Bride. He is so awesome and she is so funny. More recently I loved Nikki and Jack in Brodi Ashton's Everneath.
ReplyDeleteOo, I'll have to check those out! :) Thanks, Donna!
DeleteHave a great week yourself! I like your list. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lydia! :D
DeleteI love all the different kind I love dynamics here! Very thought provoking.
ReplyDeleteLove comes in many different packages. :D
DeleteWait. That sounded dirtier than I intended! LOL I was trying to be all profound. I have to leave it, though. Because it's you, and you'll get a snicker out of it. ;)
I adore Morelli! So swoon-inducing :)
ReplyDeleteMe too! I did a fanart of him back in 2009, and it was actually featured on Janet Evanovich's website. One of the many reasons I love her as an author. :D
DeleteWow, we must read different genres because I don't recognize any of them. I do have a few couples I love together but it's from mysteries like Tony Hill and Carol Jordon.
ReplyDeleteWe must! That's okay, though. It's always fun to branch out. :)
DeleteI think if I had to pick just one couple it would have to be Cat and Bones in Jeaniene Frost Night Huntress Series. However there are many great couples out there!!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading and writing*

Oo, good call! :) Thanks for stopping by, Teresa!
DeleteGreat couples. Four and Tris are my fave on this list.
ReplyDeleteI loved "watching" their relationship grow. No insta-love! :)
DeleteYou've picked some super couples, Carrie. Here's to love and a special Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lee! :D
DeleteOOH! This makes me all giddy! Gotta love a great couple! Love your choices! I'm so glad I finally read Anna and the French Kiss! That book is awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Leigh! :) Oh, me too. I can't believe I waited so long!
DeleteThis was so awesome! I want to make this list too! Thanks for mentioning Connor and Claire--they are faves of mine even though I'm biased. Of course one of my all-time favorites are Rena and Wallace. Hello! I agree with your choice of Ty and Hannah. Also a good one is Claire and Jamie Fraser from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series.
ReplyDeleteYou should. It's a lot of fun. :)
DeleteThank you! Oh, and you're welcome. If I were to make a list of fictional characters whose babies I would have, Connor would be right up there, again. LOL
What a fun post!! I agree with most of your picks, and at the risk of sounding like a total dork, would like to add Harry and Ginny:-)
ReplyDeleteOo, good call, Jamie! :D
DeleteOoh, a hockey player romance? I am def checking that one out. Love me some hockey....players...;)
ReplyDeleteGilbert and Anne, of course. and I agree with Lisa - Claire and Jamie are a great couple.
Heck yes! It's a somewhat steamy series revolving around a fictional hockey team. Good stuff!
DeleteOh, and I also recommend Taking Charge by Mandy Baggot. I'm in the middle of reading it and loving it so far!
Must agree with Augustus and Hazel and John Green's ability to manipulate my heart!
ReplyDeleteI do love Izzy and Henry in The Spellman series, but really I love Rae (Izzy's little sister) and her relationship with Henry. Very torturous!
Oh my goodness, yes. John has a serious gift!
DeleteOo, I'll have to check that series out. :D Thanks, Charmaine!
Chase Manhattan and Susan Anderson. Okay, so I'm biased as they are the MCs from my books.
ReplyDeleteWe're all a little biased. ;) Now I want to read about Chase and Susan!
DeleteOn this list I'm definitely going for Four & Tris and St. Clair & Anna. LOVED both of those books!
ReplyDeleteMe too! :) Thanks for stopping by, Rachel!
DeleteI'm a pretty big fan of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy :D
ReplyDeleteGreat list!!
How did I not think of that?! LOL
DeleteThanks, Samantha!
I know this is SUPER cliche but for me it's always gonna be Romeo and Juliet...
ReplyDeleteThings are cliché for a reason. People love them enough to use them again and again. :) I love Romeo and Juliet!
DeleteElizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. I love Pride and Prejudice.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I forgot Elizabeth and Darcy! I love Pride and Prejudice, too. :)
Deletelook at you! awesome couple list!
ReplyDeletefour & tris!
stephanie plum trio!
and friend books!
nice!
Thanks, Tara! :D
DeleteThis is cute. :-) And Katniss and Peeta!
ReplyDeleteOo, good call, Diana! :)
DeleteYou missed the best pairing of all. Rena and Wallace.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that this is because you haven't caught wind of the next big thing to hit the shelves. They are from a debut novel being published next month called Strength.
I strongly urge you to go and read it, its fantastic :o)
*Grins* Thank you for the recommendation, Iain. (Really, thank you!) I'll have to check out this dynamic duo!
DeleteI haven't read some of these. I need to fix that!
ReplyDeleteGreat list, Carrie!
Absolutely! :) Thanks, Empress King!
DeleteCorlath and Harry in The Blue Sword. Cricket and Lola in Lola and the Boy Next Door. Oh, and sign me up for Elizabeth and Darcy as well. So many swoonworthy pairings.
ReplyDeleteOo, nice choices, Leslie! :D
DeleteFour and Tris are way up there for me. I also like Amy and Elder from Across the Universe. I have a thing for couples in action too I guess :)
ReplyDeleteRena and Wallace are pretty yummy too!
Let's not forget Rydan and Akara! <3
