TRANSCRIPT
Carrie: So, Lisa. Tell me a secret.
Lisa: About what?
Carrie: It doesn't matter. Just tell me something. *Pause* And on a completely unrelated note, have some rum.
Lisa: Well, this isn’t really a secret but it’s
something you wouldn’t know unless you lived in Philadelphia. The Wissahickon Creek flows through the
city—that’s not a secret. But no one
calls it that. No one calls it the Wissahickon
and no one calls it a creek. If you live
here and you’re from here, you call it “back the crick”. Yes, “crick” as in a crick in one’s neck. I don’t know why. It’s just how things are!
Carrie: Weird! We say "crick" here, too. Why don't you tell me a secret about Finding Claire Fletcher?
Lisa: Are you recording this?
Carrie: Lisa, I'm insulted. I'm your friend, your critique partner, your pub sister, your--
Lisa: Okay, originally this book went a lot further in
time in the characters’ lives. I went
deeply into Connor and Claire’s relationship and his attempts to woo her. He even snuck her into a prom to try to make
up for all that she missed while she was abducted. But agents said I was trying to do too much
and CPs said that all of that was a story for another book so I cut it
all. (75,000 words, mind you!) I may try to work it into a future book
featuring those two lovebirds.
Carrie: You realize that by telling me this, you have to work it in, right? I will not rest until I read those 75,000 words.
Lisa: We'll see. I'm not making any promis--
Carrie: Nonsense! Now tell me a secret about you. Something no one else would know.
Lisa: I love romantic comedies. LOVE them.
Which is weird because my work is all dark and twisted and gritty and in
books I like my characters good and damaged.
But I could watch rom coms all day long and not get tired of them. I know they’re silly and formulaic and you
always know what’s going to happen but I don’t care. Most of the time they don’t even touch on
what happens 3-5 years down the road when those same two people are stuck in
this relationship that they hate and secretly want to stab each other but
still, I love them! I can rarely stomach
comedic romance in a book—it makes me all “Bah!
That will never last!”—but for some reason on the big screen I love
it. Some of my favorites are The Cutting
Edge (which is mentioned in my book), French Kiss, Picture Perfect, What Women
Want, Two Weeks Notice, The Wedding Planner . . . the list goes on and on.
Carrie: Hah! I love it.
Lisa: You're not going to tell anyone, are you?
Carrie: *Smiles* Can I get you a refill?

Whoa! You cut 75,000 words? That's the length of my first two books.
I am sooooo checking for bugs next time we have a conversation ;o)
I think I'm gong to have to amend my Christmas list and add this book on the bottom :o)
Loved this! You two are so clever. And holy word cuttage, Batman! 75,000?! That deserves some kind of plaque to hang in your office, Lisa!
I LOVE The Cutting Edge. Fun interview!
I'm starting to think everyone not from Long Island calls it a 'crick.' Great interview!
Cutting is among my biggest challenges. You've given me hope that I can do that! Thanks for the great interview.
Hahaha! I'm from Pittsburgh orginally & all my relatives call it a crick. How funny! Next time we get together, we should get a place near the crick & watch rom coms all night because Ilove 'em too! Very cute post! I expected nothing less from my two pub sister/CPs!
Thanks guys for all your great comments! Thank you, Carrie, for hosting me!!!! *hugs* :)
You cut 75 thousand words! Enough for a new book. So, in effect, you wrote two books! Wow! Lisa, you are my hero.
Wow! You cut out an entire book :P At least you were able to take the advice and move forward. That's a pretty big deal! Congratulations on your success and I love the interview :)
Lisa is a writing beast! ;)
Just don't check the flower pot!
I mean, bugs? What bugs? Don't be silly. :)
Why thank you, Pegasus! :)
Oh, I know. Lisa rocks!
Thanks, Ilima! :)
Gotta love dialect! ;) Thanks, Jeff!
Me too. Lisa is today's inspiration! :)
Oo, oo... a writer's retreat in a cabin by a "crick," watching rom-coms! :D
Thanks, Nancy!
Anytime, Lisa! *hugs* You're always welcome! :)
I second that! :D
Thanks for stopping by, Samantha! :D
I couldn't breathe for a second. Wow, cutting seventy-five thousand words is a big deal. Congrats on your success!
You two are too cute for words. I'm a little disappointed that you're not sharing the rum though. :)
I finished Finding Claire Fletcher last week. I haven't written a review yet because...well...Friday happened and I just can't deal with such an intense book and the death of many small children in such a short period of time. I will write a review very soon...or when things return to normal and I can think dark thoughts without all the icky stuff getting in the way.
Until then, let me get on the "we need a follow up book right away" train. I would love to know what happens with Claire and Connor. Both are such rich and wonderful characters, I crave to know what happen to them. You could write a story about their children maybe...hint hint. :)
Oh, and, Lisa, check out Definitely, Maybe. It's a great romcom, methinks you will like.
hahaha You two are a hoot! xD
(pass the rum)
That's so Master And Margarita, cutting all those words. Ouch!
Great interview. Very fun. Congrats, Lisa.
inventive & funny!
those are great movies! no harm in liking rom coms! its the weepy ones i dont like...
nice job, ladies!
I did NOT know Lisa was a fellow romcom-er. She didn't mention The Wedding Decoy - a great one set in Ireland. Highly recommend!
Great interview, ladies! I can't believe Lisa's book is already out - it seems like the months flew by.
Yours is next, Carrie. WOOT!
Totally entertaining... and the title totally made me HAVE to read this ;-)
Too bad ladies - I totally had to read this! You ladies are hilarious!
Lisa - the book sounds awesome! Congrats!
I know! I was so impressed. :) Thanks for stopping by, Ciara!
Thanks, Dana! :) Oh, you know I'm always willing to share--especially with pub family. RUM FOR EVERYONE (of legal age)!
I love that my blog has turned into a pirate ship for the week. Rum for Melissa! :D
Thanks, Natasha! :)
Thank you, Tara! :D
I can't believe how fast time is flying. I don't whether to be excited or scared!
Thanks, Melodie! :D
You read Monster at the End of This Book as a child, didn't you? *grins*
How sneaky of you! ;) Thanks, Leigh!
Great interview! There's rum? Can you interview me next? :-D
Haha. Nicely done.
For a minute there the beginning reminded me of the little Grover book "Monster at the End of the Book".
Lisa, we could watch movies together. We have the same taste.
Love the interview, ladies!
Yep, we use the word "crick" to refer to streams. LOL!
Congrats on your book release! :)
Heck yea! ;) Thanks, E.J.!
Thank you, Donna! :) Funny you should mention Grover. Lisa and I both love that book!
Thanks, Empress King! :)
Thank you for stopping by, Laura! :)
Sneaking her into prom? How sweet!! I love rom com too. The best one I saw this year was "Friends with Benefits". Loved Woody Harrelson's character and the end almost made me shed happy tears.
Great interview Carrie! This sounds really fun -- like I need to add it to my TBR pile right now! *dashes off*
I knew I wasn't the only one who wanted to read that scene! :)
LISA, THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN! LOL
Thanks, Lindsay! :) You really should. I think it'll be right up your alley!
I've bought this and I can't wait to read this!!!
Read it now! Read it now! :D
My goodness, you sure know how to intrigue us with an opening like that!
Great interview, ladies. The book sounds wonderful.
Thanks, Talli! :D
