Genre Favorites Blogfest

Happy Monday! :)

First off, a huge thank-you to everyone who helped with Strength's cover/trailer reveal last week. You guys created quite a buzz! I couldn't be more grateful. ♥

Second, who's ready for Alex J. Cavanaugh's Genre Favorites Blogfest?

(I'm going to list each category, give my answer, and then provide an example.)

MOVIES:
Anything that makes me forget I’m watching a movie. Is that a copout? Maybe. But I have too many scattered interests to choose a favorite in this category.

(Don’t worry. I’m not going to force-feed you Dr. Horrible again.) For my example, I’m going to grab a DVD off of my stack at random. And it is…

Moulin Rouge!

MUSIC:

Rock! +10 imaginary points to anyone who knows my favorite band.

...Any guesses? :)

It's Skillet! (Yep, I'm a Panhead.)

BOOKS:

Non-sappy romance. Shocking, I know. ;)

Promotional Image from Goodreads

A GUILTY PLEASURE GENRE from any of the three categories:

Sci-fi movies! Seriously. You guys know my favorite nostalgia-inducing film is Short Circuit, and I watch Serenity every time I finish Firefly. (Which, let’s be honest, is a lot.) What else could I say here? *Grins*

So, did anything surprise you? Are you taking part in Alex's blogfest? Don't forget to check out the other participants' posts! :) Have a great week, guys!

Moulin Rouge! Wicked movie - haven't seen it in ages!

Oh I need to watch Firefly again, been too long. Great picks :)

Serenity is not a guilty pleasure! I refuse to believe that.
Glad last week was so successful with your cover reveal. It was everywhere.
Thanks for participating in my blogfest!

You have such eclectic taste! Who knew?

JeffO said...

We just finished up Firefly (and Serenity) a couple of weeks ago. Meanwhile, I heard somewhere (maybe here?) that Whedon is supposedly considering a sequel for Dr. Horrible. What fun!

Marta Szemik said...

Moulin Rouge is a great movie. But look at the casting - it was perfect!

I honestly can't pick a favourite book, movie and song! There are too many! (Well, maybe Harry Potter. Can I choose a whole series as my fave?!)

Unknown said...

i was going to guess at the favorite group and you shared the answer... so i am going to make a guess anyways... do you like?...

Firefly and Serenity...I <3 you.

Love, love, love Moulin Rouge! Even my husband, who doesn't like romance movies, likes that one, but I think that's because of the songs (he likes to sing) hehe
And, to finish this ... FIREFLY FOREVER! <3

Meredith said...

Love Moulin Rouge! I definitely prefer movies that make me feel like I'm not actually watching a movie. :)

Nancy Thompson said...

Yeah that last one surprised me. I LOVE Moulin Rouge. I have it in DVD, too, as well as the soundtrack. I've watched it countless times & always cry at the end. And I even have some Skillet on my iPod, too.

Donna K. Weaver said...

My oldest granddaughter is crazy over the music from Moulin Rouge. I have select songs in my writing playlist for when I'm working on the books she's cast as the mc.

And LOVE Serenity!

Emily R. King said...

I haven't seen Moulin Rouge in SO LONG.

Must watch it now. Thanks.

Dani said...

You have such a great taste in everything. All so different. Love it!

Carrie Butler said...

I haven't, either! I should pop it in while I hop around the blog circuit this afternoon. :)

Carrie Butler said...

You should! Firefly is my favorite (albeit short-lived) show of all time. :) Thanks, Anna!

Carrie Butler said...

Okay, I don't feel guilty about Serenity. It is a pleasure, though! ;)

Thank you so much, Alex!

Katie Dunn said...

Seriously, the worst decision FOX ever made was cancelling Firefly. But at least we got the movie out of it!!

Carrie Butler said...

Yeah, I'm a bit of an odd ball... ;)

Carrie Butler said...

Nice! Did you enjoy them?

Yes, there will be a Dr. Horrible sequel! I loved the first one, so I can't wait. :D

Carrie Butler said...

Perfect, indeed! Very convincing. :) Thanks for stopping by, Marta!

Carrie Butler said...

I couldn't pick a favorite book, either. That's why I had to make one of my favorites today's genre representative. Haha!

Go for it! I would. :)

Carrie Butler said...

Yeah, I guess I was a little quick to post the answer to that one. I love a wide array of music, though. :)

Thanks for stopping by, Jeremy!

Another Browncoat? I <3 you, too, Ilima! :D

Carrie Butler said...

You lucked out, Juliana! A guy who likes Moulin Rouge is a rare find. *Grins*

YES!! <3

Carrie Butler said...

And the same goes for books, too! :) Thanks for stopping by, Meredith!

Carrie Butler said...

Really? I'm pretty geeky, Nancy. ;)

Yay! I have the soundtrack, too. Musicals make for excellent cleaning the house music. Haha!

Yes! Skillet is the best. :D

I love Doctor Horrible! I am excited they are making a second one. And who doesn't watch Serenity after finishing a Firefly rewatch? That is the way to do it. It's such a great movie.

Ohhh MONSTER!! I love that video/song. It's so rocking hard. And boy, great lyrics. :)

I've had my head stuck in a laptop for 2 years. I'm going to have to check these out. :)

And I love Monster. (I used to listen to some hard rock in my younger years. ;)

Dana Mason said...

Skillet? Never heard of them. The video was good though. If you like non-sappy romance, you should check out Jennifer Crusie, she's awesome and hilarious.
I've never seen Serenity either, but I'll check it out.

Oh my gosh! I can't believe I forgot about Skillet--I went back and added them, lol. I've never seen Serenity but I love Nathan Fillion so I'll have to check it out:-)

Ohhhh I loved Short Circuit! I really have to dig up my Firefly cd's again. I really really really don't understand why that series never made it into 10 seasons, it is THAT good!

Moulin Rouge!!!!!! I'm obsessed. I seriously did an 8th paper on the awesomeness that was that movie. So fun :D

Carrie Butler said...

Yes! It's my favorite song. :D

Carrie Butler said...

You better, Melissa! These are great films. ;)

Yes! Another Monster lover!

Carrie Butler said...

Really? You'll have to give them a listen sometime. Plenty of great music there. :)

Oh, I will! I love reading recommendations. Thank you!

If you like Joss Whedon (Firefly, Buffy, Angel, etc.), you'll love Serenity. :)

Carrie Butler said...

Never forget about Skillet, Jamie! Haha! :)

Oh, you'll love Serenity! Have you seen Firefly? If not, try to go back and watch it first.

Naked Nathan Fillion, anyone? ;)

Carrie Butler said...

That was such a great movie! It takes me back every time. :)

Oh my gosh! Me too. I'm still mad at FOX about that one!

Carrie Butler said...

8th grade? Holy guac! I didn't realize you were younger than me. xD

But yes, great movie! :D

Carrie Butler said...

I'm really feeling the geeky love/support this week. I'm going to watch Serenity again to celebrate! :D

Carrie Butler said...

Yes! Great taste in movies, Tamara! :D

Carrie Butler said...

I do, too! I've already mentioned both two or three times on the blog this year. Haha! ;)

Thanks for stopping by, Lynda!

Carrie Butler said...

1. We are insane.
2. You should watch them, anyway! ;)

Carrie Butler said...

They're one of those I-can't-believe-I-didn't-skip-any-songs-on-this-CD bands. I love them! :)

James Garcia Jr said...

Hi, Carrie. It's very good to meet you. Love the Moulin Rouge shout-out. I didn't at the time, mind you. My wife and I went to see something else and it was sold out. She then tells me we should Moulin Rouge. I hadn't even heard of it, and it wasn't because I only watch action films or anything. If you visit my site you'll see. Anyway, I had no idea, but it really grew on me. Why is it that no one mentions Ewan's singing? I thought he did fabulous as well, but everyone only mentions Nicole? Oh, well. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, Jimmy! It's nice to meet you, too.

Kudos for being open-minded enough to see Moulin Rouge when the other film was sold out! You're right. Ewan did a fantastic job. I was very impressed. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

HI, Carrie,

First let me say how super gorgeous, sexy, and alluring you look in your new pic... I hope I'm not embarrassing you... I am a writer, and a very descriptive one, after all. LOL.

Yes, your choices did surprise me a bit. I didn't peg you for a a sci/fi movie lover.

Never heard of your favorite band... I'll have to check them out.

I'm with you on the movie thing ... I love all kinds and have varied interests.

Carrie Butler said...

Hey, Michael!

That's okay. I'm easily embarrassed when it comes to compliments. Honestly, you should see my face. Insta-blush! LOL Thank you very much for the kind words. :)

The old photo--business suit and long hair--felt too stiff. I went with my normal clothes and local setting this time. It was a lot easier to smile!

On Skillet's most recent album, I think you'll like Hero and Awake & Alive. Very positive tracks!

Good! I think having varied interests makes for more well-rounded writing. :) Thanks for stopping by!

Gotta love those love stories, right? :D Thank you!

No problem!
