Oh, Those High School Dances!

Yep, I'm blonde. The auburn is dye. ;)
I was going to skip this one, but I’m secretly afraid of Emily's pregnant wrath--so here we go!

The Rules:
1. Post pictures of your high school dances.
2. Share with us your funniest high school dance story. I don’t have anything particularly funny, so I’m going to do what I do best: ramble!
3. That's it!

...Ugh, pictures. Okay, here's one from my senior prom.
(I cropped out whoever I was posing with to protect the innocent.) Two things here:
  • Don't even get me started on those bangs.
  • I don’t know why I chose pink. I'm not a pink person at all.
Truthfully, most of that night is an apathetic blur. What do I remember? Leaving glitter in my date’s car. Seriously, I felt bad for the guy. He vac’d it out multiple times, and it never came out. I think he said it was still there when he sold the thing years later.

Um… oops.

Death. Grip.
Here's a quick breakdown of my high school proms:

Freshman Year - I was dating an upperclassman dbag, so I got invited to this one. The theme was "Frozen in Time". Kind of morbid, right? I wore a red dress. 'Nuff said.

Sophomore Year - Still dating the upperclassman dbag. This time, the theme was... uh, something about a red carpet. Maybe Hollywood? I wore a black dress with intricate silver beading down the back.

Man, I loved that dress. I wonder if I still have it. I could wear it to, you know, check the mail and stuff...

Junior Year - I spent this one in the hospital, after shredding the ligaments in my knee for the millionth time. My classmates' theme was Hawaiian; Mine was Vicodin.

Senior Year - By this point, the cheating  upperclassman dbag was history. I went to prom with a guy I've known since Kindergarten. The theme was something about Paris, and I wore the sparkly pink dress from the photos. (The second is brighter/lighter, because it was taken outside during promenade.) The end.

Phew! Memories are exhausting. Let's end this with a silly video Michael Buckley put up a few weeks ago:

Thanks for the fun, Emily and Kelley! Now let's hear from the rest of you. ;)

What do you remember about your high school dances?

Have a great week!
P.S. No hard feelings, Dbag. :)

  1. This post made me smile, thanks for sharing. My sophomore year I went to prom in a long black sheath dress, a knee high cast on my right leg, and crutches. Nothing says grace and elegance like hobbling on one foot across the dance floor. (:

Oh man. You're such a trooper, Elise! I don't think I could've maneuvered around the dance floor in my leg brace. Someone would've had to prop me up in the corner. ;)

Glad to know I have some entertainment ahead of me tonight. Bring on the disaster stories! lol

  10. I went to prom with a long time friend as well. Best decision ever.
I can totally see myself leaving glitter in someone's car. You don't think about that when you pick out a dress :)

  11. Awesome memories! And whoa! Look at you! Yowza! See Cassie's comment above. I went to all three high school proms (soph hop, jr. prom & sr. ball) with the same guy. He was so cute. A mix of Sting & Daniel Craig. I only really remember the Senior Ball & the dress I wore, a beautiful pale green silk column dress my mom made for me. The theme was a Journey song but I'm so old I can't remember. I do have pictures somewhere though.

You know, people who can sew impress me so much. (Probably because I can't. Seriously, I sewed a pin cushion to my pants in Home Ec. LOL)

  12. We've all dated a dbag. I was a freshmen and he was a senior. Thank heaven that ended sooner rather than later. I met my hubby right after him.

Love the pink and the cleavage. Va-va-voom!

  20. Jr. year I went to prom with my dbag. (not the guy in my posting). We broke up before prom, but we still went (even though it wasn't even his school). So I guess I have to give him credit for that. He was friends with my circle of friends too though, so it's not like he was all on his own.

    1. This further cements my theory that every girl dates a dbag at one time or another! ;) Hmm, yeah. We'll have to give yours half-credit for that one. I'm glad you got to go. :)

  27. Love your reflections on your various dances :) I kind of like pink, even though I'm not a pink person and basically have no pink clothes. I think I'm developing a morbid fascination with it. I now have a pink camera and a pink travel bag! Hot pink, too.

  29. Oh man I LOVE that 'death grip picture!XDXD Haha and the chronicles of your dances! Interesting choice, the pink- I also had a pink dress, and my date was also forced to wear a matching tie. I have strong negative feelings towards said date nowadays, so now I can look back at those pictures and laugh in joy while thinking that pink was the best choice I could have ever made.

And hey, don't worry, dbags are like a right of passage in every person's life, I think. As long as you ended up ditching him and never looking back, it means you passed :D

Now that you mention it, that's weird! My date wore a bow tie. The guy in the photo was one of my friends, but it looks like we match. His GF must've worn pink, too. :)

Okay, now I have negative feelings toward your date, and I don't even know him! I hope he cringes every time he sees the photo. *Grins*

      Heck yeah!

Your experiences sound like material for a book, only leave the glitter in dbags car and maybe even 'accidentally' get some in his eye. We're writers, we can twist the truth however we see fit. :-)

  36. Love love love this post. And glad you got rid of the dbag. Stupid guys! I spit at them. Okay, I only went to two dances during my high career (if I can call it that--my fav subject was lunch). One I asked a guy out and the other my best guy friend asked me to. I think out of pitty cuz I hadn't been asked to a high school dance ever. I was sort of strange back in those awkward days. You know how high school was. Ugh. Anyway, I had the hugest crush on my guy friend so it was a delightful evening for me. :D
