1. Post pictures of your high school dances.
2. Share
with us your funniest high school dance story. I don’t have anything particularly funny, so I’m
going to do what I do best: ramble!
3. That's it!
...Ugh, pictures. Okay, here's one from my senior prom.
(I cropped out whoever I was posing with to protect the innocent.) Two things here:
(I cropped out whoever I was posing with to protect the innocent.) Two things here:
- Don't even get me started on those bangs.
- I don’t know why I chose pink. I'm not a pink person at all.
Truthfully, most of that night is an apathetic blur. What do I
remember? Leaving glitter in my date’s car. Seriously, I felt bad for the
guy. He vac’d it out multiple times, and it never came out. I think he said it
was still there when he sold the thing years later.
Um… oops.
Um… oops.
Freshman Year - I was dating an upperclassman dbag, so I got invited to this one. The theme was "Frozen in Time". Kind of morbid, right? I wore a red dress. 'Nuff said.
Sophomore Year - Still dating the upperclassman dbag. This time, the theme was... uh, something about a red carpet. Maybe Hollywood? I wore a black dress with intricate silver beading down the back.
Man, I loved that dress. I wonder if I still have it. I could wear it to, you know, check the mail and stuff...

Junior Year - I spent this one in the hospital, after shredding the ligaments in my knee for the millionth time. My classmates' theme was Hawaiian; Mine was Vicodin.
Senior Year - By this point, the cheating upperclassman dbag was history. I went to prom with a guy I've known since Kindergarten. The theme was something about Paris, and I wore the sparkly pink dress from the photos. (The second is brighter/lighter, because it was taken outside during promenade.) The end.
Phew! Memories are exhausting. Let's end this with a silly video Michael Buckley put up a few weeks ago:

This post made me smile, thanks for sharing. My sophomore year I went to prom in a long black sheath dress, a knee high cast on my right leg, and crutches. Nothing says grace and elegance like hobbling on one foot across the dance floor. (:
ReplyDeleteI'm glad!
DeleteOh man. You're such a trooper, Elise! I don't think I could've maneuvered around the dance floor in my leg brace. Someone would've had to prop me up in the corner. ;)
I wonder if anyone ever has a perfect prom, where everything goes smoothly? I've read about many disasters today lol!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I don't think a perfect prom would be very fun. Sounds too uneventful. I wouldn't remember it. ;)
DeleteGlad to know I have some entertainment ahead of me tonight. Bring on the disaster stories! lol
Glitter in the car, priceless!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I thought it added value. *Grins*
DeleteI love the dress you have one. Very pretty and your bangs look fine. It was the style then anyways. At least glitter is the only thing left behind.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Danielle!
DeleteGood point. I can always blame the time period. *Grins*
I like the sparkly pink. Those other dresses look great too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ilima! :)
DeleteLove this Carrie and blonde 0.o wow! You looked great and font worry my story is more depressing than funny. :) Glad you got away from the dbag!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Victoria! :) Aww, depressing? I'm on my way over.
DeleteMe too! ;)
Hah - Vicodin sounds like a good replacement for a high school dance. You look good as a blonde! :D
ReplyDeleteHah! Can't argue with you there. :)
Delete(For medical reasons, kids. Don't do drugs!)
Thank you! I'm the only person I know who dyes her hair to cover light roots. lol
That video was basically the best thing I've seen in ages on the Internet. Oh, and also, GLITTER!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it, Bailey! :D
DeleteCheck out that rack! haha, you look hot girl!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got rid of the dbag :)
Hah! I should not have checked my messages at lunch today. I started cracking up at Applebees and had to share with the table. LOL
DeleteThank you, Cassie!
I went to prom with a long time friend as well. Best decision ever.
ReplyDeleteI can totally see myself leaving glitter in someone's car. You don't think about that when you pick out a dress :)
It's a good time with a lot less pressure! Glad you went that route, as well. :) Exactly!
DeleteAwesome memories! And whoa! Look at you! Yowza! See Cassie's comment above. I went to all three high school proms (soph hop, jr. prom & sr. ball) with the same guy. He was so cute. A mix of Sting & Daniel Craig. I only really remember the Senior Ball & the dress I wore, a beautiful pale green silk column dress my mom made for me. The theme was a Journey song but I'm so old I can't remember. I do have pictures somewhere though.
ReplyDeleteHah! You guys are nuts. I love it. :D Thank you!
DeleteOo, I hope you find those pictures sometime. I want to see them. :)
You know, people who can sew impress me so much. (Probably because I can't. Seriously, I sewed a pin cushion to my pants in Home Ec. LOL)
We've all dated a dbag. I was a freshmen and he was a senior. Thank heaven that ended sooner rather than later. I met my hubby right after him.
ReplyDeleteLove the pink and the cleavage. Va-va-voom!
Too true. Dating a dbag is like a rite of passage anymore. Glad you met your hubby right after yours! :)
Delete*Snort* You guys are killing me today! Thank you. ;)
Dang dbags! Pretty dress, and you're lucky you can look good as a blond and with auburn hair.
ReplyDeleteDang 'em, indeed! ;) Aww... thank you, Donna!
DeleteHey, your picture is really pretty!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Summer! If only I still had that young, naive thing going for me... *Grins*
DeleteYou're adorable! Glad you ditched the dbag. (That stands for dirt bag, right?) And I love that you left glitter behind! Made the night memorable for years to come. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pegasus! (Sure! Dirt bag, other d-word, whatever you want it to be!) Hah! Yeah, it was like a souvenier. ;)
DeleteYou look so cute. And I'm glad you ditched the dbag. ;0)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenny! :) I'm glad, too.
DeleteWell, at least you ditched the dbag by the last one!
ReplyDeleteAnd what a good choice that turned out to be! :)
DeleteGlad you got rid of the dbag :)
ReplyDeleteSince he was such a jerk I guess he deserved the glitter! :)
Unfortunately, I left the glitter in my childhood friend's car; not dbag's. If only I'd worn that dress earlier! LOL
DeleteVicodin Jr. Prom! That should be a real theme. I'm just joking. Don't do drugs.
ReplyDeleteThat was close, Angela. We were about to stage an intervention. *Grins*
DeleteJr. year I went to prom with my dbag. (not the guy in my posting). We broke up before prom, but we still went (even though it wasn't even his school). So I guess I have to give him credit for that. He was friends with my circle of friends too though, so it's not like he was all on his own.
ReplyDeleteThis further cements my theory that every girl dates a dbag at one time or another! ;) Hmm, yeah. We'll have to give yours half-credit for that one. I'm glad you got to go. :)
DeleteWas in the band at my school, just remember sex.
ReplyDeleteThat's... pleasant, Dave. :P
DeleteWell, at least you didn't marry the dbag. *curses under breath* :P You look great! :D
ReplyDeleteThis is true. I just turned into a stubborn, overly independent type. *Grins* Kidding!
Delete...Mostly.
Thanks! :)
I'm so impressed that you can even remember the themes. It's sad I've forgotten those details :( Loving you as both a blonde and a red head! You can rock it either way! SO CUTE!
ReplyDeleteI'll be honest...
DeleteIf it weren't for photos and keychains, I probably wouldn't! LOL
Thank you, Leigh! That's so sweet of you. :D
You look good as a blonde too! And I'm with Melissa above, at least you didn't marry the dbag.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Charity! Yep, dodged a bullet there. ;)
DeleteVa-Va-VOOM indeed ;) man... its alot creepier when a guy comments on the boobs isnt it? haha
ReplyDeleteHah! Yeah, just a bit. Thankfully, I know you and can verify you're not a creeper. :P
DeleteSuper funny! Enjoyed your ramble quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elizabeth! :D
DeleteLove your reflections on your various dances :) I kind of like pink, even though I'm not a pink person and basically have no pink clothes. I think I'm developing a morbid fascination with it. I now have a pink camera and a pink travel bag! Hot pink, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Trisha!
DeleteHah! I love how you called it a "morbid fascination". :)
Vicodin and glitter together may just be the perfect prom theme.
ReplyDeleteHah! Now THERE'S a book concept. *Grins*
DeleteOh man I LOVE that 'death grip picture!XDXD Haha and the chronicles of your dances! Interesting choice, the pink- I also had a pink dress, and my date was also forced to wear a matching tie. I have strong negative feelings towards said date nowadays, so now I can look back at those pictures and laugh in joy while thinking that pink was the best choice I could have ever made.
ReplyDeleteAnd hey, don't worry, dbags are like a right of passage in every person's life, I think. As long as you ended up ditching him and never looking back, it means you passed :D
Thanks, Sally! I think I look like some kind of evil cyborg. ;)
DeleteNow that you mention it, that's weird! My date wore a bow tie. The guy in the photo was one of my friends, but it looks like we match. His GF must've worn pink, too. :)
Okay, now I have negative feelings toward your date, and I don't even know him! I hope he cringes every time he sees the photo. *Grins*
Heck yeah!
HAHA! I love these photos and you look so different with light hair! I like both, BTW:) I remember feeling nauseated, sweaty and wanting to go home at dances LOL!!! I went to most of them with my now-hubby, so that's an interesting twist eh?
ReplyDeleteAww... thanks, Lindsay! :)
DeleteHah! Love from nausea. That, my friend, is a success story. :D
What a great pic! You look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour experiences sound like material for a book, only leave the glitter in dbags car and maybe even 'accidentally' get some in his eye. We're writers, we can twist the truth however we see fit. :-)
Thank you, Natasha! :)
DeleteHah! 'Accidentally' in the eye. I love it!
What lovely photos, Carrie! You shouldn't have felt bad about the glitter. Just think, every time he saw a "flash" he thought of you. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Candylynn! Oo, I never thought about it that way. :)
DeleteThanks for sharing the pictures! You look great--and I mean that. :)
ReplyDeleteThat was an awesome video. I love how he just beamed throughout the entire thing.
Aww... thanks, Eagle! Yeah, Buck is a very happy/positive guy. :)
Deleteyou look good with either color hair =)
ReplyDeletetypical dbag guy!
cute pic!
Thank you, Tara! :)
DeleteIsn't it better we wash out the annoying dbag syndrome before we grow up :)
ReplyDeleteCute pics and *Thank You, Jesus* I never had to wear a pink tie like that one :)
It sure is! :) Thanks, Mark!
DeleteHey, you never know. Maybe your wife will see this post and get inspired. You may have to rock that pink tie, after all. *Grins*
Love love love this post. And glad you got rid of the dbag. Stupid guys! I spit at them. Okay, I only went to two dances during my high career (if I can call it that--my fav subject was lunch). One I asked a guy out and the other my best guy friend asked me to. I think out of pitty cuz I hadn't been asked to a high school dance ever. I was sort of strange back in those awkward days. You know how high school was. Ugh. Anyway, I had the hugest crush on my guy friend so it was a delightful evening for me. :D
ReplyDeleteHah! I love that, Julia. "I spit at them." I can't stop snickering.
DeleteAww, that sounds like book material! I love situations like that! :D
Oh, so sweet, those pics. I do not have anything that could come close to that. Not even.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lee! :)
Delete...Aww, I was hoping to see some photos!
Wow Carrie. A. I love the pink. B. I love your hair. C. You're a freaking babe. I wish I looked that good. Thanks for sharing. I love these prom posts.
ReplyDeleteD'aww... thanks, Erin! :)
DeleteI wish I did, too. I think the photo is some kind of illusion from all the reflective jewelry. Whatever it was, it's gone now! LOL
You totally rock the pink!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
Nutschell
www.thewritingnut.com
Thanks, Nutschell! :D You too!
DeleteOh, those high school dbags. I'm betting you are a wiser, more cautious person bc of him.
ReplyDeleteThanks, dbag!! ;)
You bet, Melodie! :D
DeleteThat's hilarious. ^_^ I never went to high school dances, probably because me dancing is a hazard to everyone around me.
ReplyDeleteAlso: since you asked, I've added a follow-by-e-mail thingy to my blog. Thanks for the tip!
Hazardous dancing? I have to see that sometime. *Grins*
DeleteNo problem! Let me know if you need any help. :)
Oh dear, I can't remember too many dances. Grade eight, my sister bought me this cute dark purple mini dress. I arrived only to discover that my best friend had the exact same dress. The difference? She was short; on her the dress looked regular. LOL. We had fun just the same.
ReplyDeleteI meant to say that I love your uniqueness. In my day everyone wanted to be blonde. Oh, you look beautiful in that dress. Try it on, get someone to take a pic, and do a before and after shot.
DeleteHah! Well, that just shows you both have impeccable taste, right? *Grins*
DeleteThank you! :D Hmm, not sure I'm brave enough to squeeze myself into that thing again. LOL
Wow you look stunning in that dress!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't have such things in the UK as I recall. If we did I would have been a wallflower :O)
Thank you, Madeleine!
DeleteAww, lucky you! Less pressure. :D
I also dated a dbag my frosh and half my soph year in high school! I wore black and white to the prom, although Lady in Red was my favorite all-time song.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love those learning experiences? ;) Oo, nice!
