I Hijacked Someone's Blog

Hey, guys! Just a quick mid-week note to let you know one of my critique partners, Melissa Maygrove, is doing a series for beginning writers called "You Are Here." (I know, I know. Consider it a refresher, oldbies!) Anyway, she asked me to do a guest post on first chapters today. If you get a chance, check it out. :)

(Besides, Melissa is my beloved mentee for the Fire It Up blogfest. This is a way to preview her pretty, new blog!)

A guest post on first chapters...wonderful. And I see you have a personal blog now. You've been keeping busy. :)

I left one of those intelligent remarks I'm famous for, the one that readers will see and think, Wow, that joylene really knows wherefore she comes. Great guest spot. False starts are really a big no-no, and I'm glad you pointed that out. Too bad some of them best-selling authors didn't stop by.

Thanks, Iain! :)

Aww, thanks, Jamie! I was actually called away by an emergency on Wednesday, but I hope your contest went well!

Well, if you're going to cry about it... *grins* Sure!

Thanks, Laila! Oh yes. Very busy. :)

I love your comments, Joylene! :) Thank you! You know, I'm kind of glad they didn't. I don't want them to think I'm the weird girl who impersonates Alex Trebek... *grins*

That's some great advice! In my first draft I was guilty of info-dumping. *hands head in shame* My second draft is a lot less info-dumpy and begins in the midst of action.

I'm guilty of infodumping at the start of my current draft which will be the first thing to rectify. Great post. Thanks for following my blog - look forward to getting to know you in the Campaign!

Thanks, Komal! You know... I think we all have first drafts like that. ;)

That's okay, Nick. We're all guilty of that from time to time. Thank you! You too! :)

first off sorry i have to be kept a secret because my mom is overly safe it is annoying! but i am eleven,a girl in sixth grade who loves writing not many people like they say i am a nobody and need to get a life, but i guess i have one friend my diary i write in it all the time! everyone beats me up if i don't do they're history homework or write a story so they can get an A+ in writing i use a computer a lot to write my own news paper or mystery stories...but you're dreams don't get you friends and that scars you for a while

Hi, Anonymous!

Eek. I’m sure your mom just wants to keep you safe because she cares about you. There are a lot of scary people out there.

Besides, I still follow certain rules on the Internet, and I’m a grownup. :)

That’s wonderful that you’ve found a love for writing at such a young age! I hate to hear that the kids at school aren’t being very nice to you, though. :( Have you talked to an adult (your mom, a teacher, etc.) about it? Maybe they can help. :)

Keep writing!
